Ski touring program
The Oztal ski tour is for those with previous ski touring experience and recommended as a second ski tour after the Silvretta ski tour. The Oztal is similar to the Silvretta’s but the summits are higher, glaciers longer and overall a greater challenge to the skier. The Otzal ski tour is six days touring from hut to hut.
The aim of your ski touring week
Over six days skiers will be traversing and skiing several of the very large glacier basins in the vast Oztal region and will aim to climb many summits on ski and the ultimately The Wildspitze standing as Tirol’s highest mountain at 3774m .
Accommodation
Sleeping in some fine alpine huts/refuges perched on the edge of glaciers dotted. The huts are staffed and provide breakfast and evening meals during the ski tour.
Fitness for the ski touring course
Skiers need to be of personal high fitness level and able to cope with long mountain days. You will be carrying a rucksack all day, which will contain lunch and water, clothing, crampons and ice axe. The pace for climbing is averaging 300m/900ft height gain per hour. The pace is suited to the group’s fitness level. The Oztal is higher elevated than the Silvretta’s and a few days will be required to acclimatise to the altitude.
Ski technique level for the ski touring course
Skiers need to be competent in all off piste conditions and able to ski from powder, spring softer types of snow and possibly wind crust. Generally on the glacier the snow is colder and generally more of a powder type. You will be given ski technique tips from your ski guide to make the most out of the all descents during the week.
