Allocating you into the correct group is very important to your overall off piste experience, so we have 4 levels for you to try and self assess your skill at the booking stage.

It's possible to change during your off piste course up or down to suit if necessary.

Check the levels below keeping in mind that fitness plays a huge role as off piste skiing is demanding on the legs and tired legs loose skiing technique even if the mind is motivated. So don't go too high to start as this will over challenge your confidence and you'll be heading for an early après ski before you intended...

 

Important Note: to progress and enjoy the off piste courses it helps to have an adventurous spirit and be prepared to ski assertively.

You will alternate between on and off piste, understanding the differences in snow and how the ski technique and balance changes in varying snow conditions. There is a large focus on off piste ski technique and finding suitable off piste terrain to build confidence.

 

You will learn:


  • Controlling speed and linking turns in off piste terrain
  • Develop your position on the skis for better performance
  • How to best coordinate the use of the poles in freeriding
  • Develop your sensitivity of pressure on the skis for happier turns
  • Develop your steering skills to maximise full potential from your skis
  • The basics of avalanche rescue (how to handle the transceiver shovel and probe, organising a rescue search)

Off piste level 1 BEGINNER | Off piste level 2 INTERMEDIATE | Off Piste level 3 COMPETENT | | Off Piste level 4 ADVANCED

You have some off piste skiing experience but need to develop your ski technique further to gain full control of both speed and direction with the plan to tackle steeper off piste slopes in confidence.

You'll be working towards off piste skiing the longer deeper snow filled valleys and tree descents.

 

You will learn:


  • Continuing with your personal ski technique development
  • Confidence building
  • Awareness of your off piste surroundings
  • Adjusting your ski technique in differing snow conditions
  • Developing an understanding for safe and potentially hazardous ski lines
  • Basics in avalanche science

Big classic descents and ski technique tips to get the best from your skis in the terrain you're facing. You are feeling very confident and looking to ski steeper lines and ready to learn how to handle the steeps in style and confidence.

 

You will learn:


  • Learn the latest skills to get the most out of your off piste skiing course
  • Devoping your ski position further for increasded balance and style
  • Seeking more challenging terrain
  • Place the turns where you wish and begin to play more with the off piste terrain
  • Read the snow and terrain to choose your perfect line in safety

Freeride Off Piste course, you're ready to push your limits but keep respect for your boundaries. You have lots of off piste experience and can ski all types of snow conditions including deep powder and wind packed snow. You are fit and don't mind climbing to access hidden off piste bowls and couloirs.

 

You will learn:


  • Skiing your own lines in technically steep rocky terrain
  • How to keep a strong balanced body position while off piste skiing at speed
  • Place the turns where ever you like in every sort of snow
  • How to react with your skiing in terms of different avalanche risk level‘s
